Old Post Road Orchestra to Celebrate 25th Year
WILBRAHAM – The Old Post Road Orchestra, this year celebrating its 25th anniversary, will open its 2010 -2011 season with a concert entitled “The Haunting Sounds of Autumn.” The public is invited to enjoy this afternoon of music on Saturday, October 30 at 3:00pm at The Gardens of Wilbraham, 2301 Boston Road. The concert is free and open to the public, and is graciously sponsored by Hampden Engineering of East Longmeadow.
The orchestra is under the direction of Juli Sansoucy who returns for her second year as Conductor and Music Director. Among the pieces to be performed are Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture, Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings, Berlioz’s March to the Scaffold, and Respighi’s Pines of Rome (Finale).
OPRO had its beginnings in 1986 as a musical outlet for students wishing to keep up their musical skills after graduation. It has since become a non-profit volunteer community orchestra for musicians of all ages. Anyone wishing to join is welcome to bring their musical ability to rehearsals every Wednesday at 7:30pm at the Stony Hill School.
